Slowly we are beginning to have routine in our days, with early mornings and early bedtime. In order to stretch out our legs and keep our minds clear we have taken the habit of walking down the dirt road outside the campus in the mornings and evenings. Along the way we are greeted by local passers by. It seems that a mobile shop keeper, carrying a board covered with toys on his back, returns home at the same time of our sunset walk. When we pass by we smile to each other and say: "Mambo" "Mambo poa." This is a local way of saying what's up.

Today's Art Club was quite different to our first group. Some of the differences are possibly caused by small changes in our use of the space, and the fact that we are gradually learning to communicate more effectively with the girls. In order to make the girls feel comfortable sitting on the floor we placed colourful pieces of cloth for each to sit on in a circle. This time also the art work was done on the floor. We found that this new way of using the space made it easier for the girls to engage in the activities, which is very different from their usual classroom structure.

At night we were soothed to sleep with the soft sound of rain falling and crickets singing.

  1. All of it sounds so nice and inspirational that it almost makes me cry here in the urban jungle. All the best with the project!
